Live - Masters / Advanced / Clinical - Workshop

Total 2 day LIVE workshop event (can include Bachelors exam level where applicable).  Each participant receives exam level workbook with sample tests.  Extensive individualized follow-up and support is available to all participants.  This is the content that will be addressed in each of the areas.

Test Taking Strategy
.  (Elements of testing strategy will also be reinforced throughout the 2 day course)

         A. Specific test taking strategy and learning how to take a standardized test.

         B. Finding key words and application of Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Participants will be able to:

·      Identify how to break down questions and identify key words.

·      Apply Bloom’s taxonomy to how questions are formulated.

·      Practice how to take social work practice information and address it in a standardized format.

Diagnosis, Assessment and Treatment Planning in Social Work Practice

         A.  Psychosocial history and collateral data

B.  Clinical assessment instruments and indicators of abuse and neglect

C.  Problem identification

D.  Identification/evaluation of behavioral/psychosocial strengths and weaknesses

E.  Diagnosis, assessment and practice intervention with mental and behavioral disorders

F.  Person-in Situation highlighting specific effects of the environment on client behavior

Participants will be able to: 

·      Identify, differentiate and interpret psychosocial history and collateral data information and how it relates in the social work practice setting.

·      Review the strategies for clinical assessment and evidence-based practice with individuals that suffer from psychosocial disorders and problems.

·      Utilize a strengths perspective while assessing person in situation issues and behavioral/psychosocial strengths and weaknesses

·      Identify diagnosis, assessment and practice intervention with mental and behavioral disorders utilizing the DSM-5

·      Identify clients at risk of suicide or danger to self or others

·      Highlight person-in situation and specific effects of the environment in relation to client behavior

Participants will be able to:

·      Define the components of practice and intervention strategy with individuals, groups, families and communities

·      Recognize and recite the concepts relative to the major theoretical approaches, models and methods of practice in the field of social work

·      Recognize and recite the basics and application of couple and family therapy

·      Recognize and recite the basics and application of group work and group psychotherapy

·      Explain current approaches relative to advocacy and prevention in clinical practice

·      Explore and interpret basic methods and techniques used in social work practice such as the clinical interview, establishing treatment goals and monitoring progress, and addressing specific techniques of clinical practice

·      Tabulate the theories and principles of communication and formulate techniques of communicating

·      Identify factors in the therapeutic relationship facilitate building and retaining relationships

·      Recognize the importance of the relationship in clinical practice

Participants will be able to:

·      Summarize the major theoretical approaches to understanding human growth and development with individuals, groups and families

·      Explore community and organizational theories

·      Sketch the theories and stages of normal psychosocial, cognitive, moral and behavioral development in the life cycle of individuals, families and groups

·      Construct a timeline relative to abnormal and addictive behaviors

·      Recite and synthesize the dynamics of abuse and neglect

Participants will be able to:

·      Review and interpret the NASW Code of Ethics

·      Trace the role of the social worker and how it relates to the helping relationship

·      Cite the responsibility that social workers have to clients and within professional relationships

·      Translate the most common policies and procedures that governing service delivery

·      Summarize the rights of the client

·      Summarize the expectations of ethical social work practice to clients, colleagues and other related areas

Participants will be able to:

Restate the roles and functions related to professional supervision and educational expectations

Recognize the similarities and differences between clinical supervision and consultation 

Tabulate issues relative to practice management, and managed care agencies.
